SCORE Assistance For Mexicali’s Earthquake Relief Program

SCORE International’s Sal Fish has announced plans to assist the thousands of people impacted by the massive 7.2 earthquake struck in the late afternoon of April 4 in the area in Baja California located southeast of Mexicali, Mexico. In response to an urgent request from the government of Baja California, Fish, CEO/President of the Los Angeles-based SCORE desert racing organization, SCORE will be seeking donations during the festivities surrounding the Saturday, April 24 ‘live’ drawing for starting positions for next month’s Tecate SCORE Baja 500 desert race. Vehicle and vendor displays on April 24 are scheduled to open at 11 a.m. with the drawing at 1 p.m. The donations of materials and cash will be collected during an outdoor vendor and vehicle display to be held at the new MasterCraft Safety facility located at 9335 Stevens Road in Santee, Calif. Personnel will be available to accept donations from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. “Baja California means so much to SCORE and the entire desert racing community, that just have to help those individuals who have been so severely impacted by this natural disaster,” said Fish, who has been at the helm of the World’s Foremost Desert Racing organization since soon after it was founded in 1973. “Our SCORE family of administrators, staff, volunteers, racers, sponsors and crews are extremely supportive of charitable projects in Baja, but this is a unique tragic incident and we must rally together to help our friends South of the Border.” While not extensively covered by the world’s news media, Mexican government officials report that more than 25,000 people are in shelters after earthquake and subsequent flooding either totally or partially destroyed their homes. “We are asking that individuals and teams bring requested relief items and/or cash donations to MasterCraft on April 24,” Fish added. “The Federal and State governments of Mexico have reached an agreement to allow all humanitarian support and supplies to the recent victims of this tragedy to cross the border free of any duty or permits. The infrastructure in these areas has also been significantly damaged as many remain without electricity and many roads are severely damaged as well. It’s is a miracle that there were no more reported fatalities than two so far, but there still remains some very critical needs and we all need to help however we can.” The SCORE live drawing event at MasterCraft is already conducting a raffle for the Castro-Limon Cancer Foundation for children stricken with the disease. Proceeds from the Locos Mocos pit group taco sales are also going to benefit the Foundation. In an effort to help start the aid project for the Mexicali Earthquake relief program, MasterCraft CEO Robbie Pierce, who is also a prominent SCORE racer, has agreed to match the total of the funds raised for the foundation from the Locos Mocos Taco stand to the earthquake victims. “Robbie Pierce is a remarkable person who is always looking to help someone less fortunate than himself and SCORE salutes him for his sincere generosity,” said Fish. “His philanthropy continues to help thousands of individuals in need.”

MasterCraft Safety To Host Starting Position Drawing For 2010 Tecate SCORE Baja 500.
SCORE International has chosen MasterCraft Safety’s new corporate headquarters in Santee, California to draw starting positions for the 42nd running of the Tecate SCORE Baja 500 in Ensenada, B.C., Mexico.  Held on April 24th, the drawing will feature a full range of activities to keep race fans entertained all day long.  "We haven’t had an open house since we moved to our new facility earlier this month," explained MasterCraft Safety CEO, Robbie Pierce.  "MasterCraft Safety has a strong relationship with SCORE International and we were honored when Sal Fish asked us to host the drawing for the Baja 500 running order."

MasterCraft Safety’s facility in Santee, located just twenty minutes east of San Diego, is the manufacturing headquarters for the company’s full-line of suspension seats, restraints, race suits and other safety products used by racers, off-road enthusiasts, and military personnel around the world.  Additionally, the Santee location is in the center of the off-road racing universe, located directly next to other industry giants such as Fox Racing Shox, AlumiCraft, Racer X Motorsports, Stewart Race Works, and Jimco Racing, the world-class SCORE International chassis builder of the year, 14 years running.  The full day of festivities will include vendor booths from Santee’s famous desert racing neighbors, as well as Off-Road Warehouse, Walker Evans Wheels and various other off-road related companies.

A raffle with thousands of dollars worth of prizes will also be held to raise money funds for Fundacion Castro-Limon, an organization that provides cancer treatments for children in Baja who would not normally have access to therapy.  Prizes currently include MasterCraft Safety suspension seats and race suit, BFGoodrich tires (set of 4), MSD ignition box, Fox Shox $400 gift certificate, PAC Heating & Air Conditioning A/C service (in San Diego County only), U.S. Wheel Repair $150 gift certificate, Total Chaos Fabrication Upper Control Arm Suspension Kit, and Streamline Forms & Graphics $150 worth of decal printing.  More prizes from generous sponsors are being added every day.  Tickets will be just $5 each, available at the event on April 24th and prior to the raffle on race-dezert.com.

Additionally, complimentary refreshments will be served while the Locos Mocos and Baja Pit organizations will be once again taking to the grill and serving up delicious carne asada tacos.  A small cash donation will be accepted with all proceeds benefiting the Fundacion Castro-Limon.  And, in light of the recent 7.2 Easter Day earthquake in Mexicali, MasterCraft Safety has generously offered to match all taco stand cash donations with equal funds for the Mexicali Earthquake Relief Fund.

Festivities, including facility tours and vendor displays, will begin at 10am and starting positions will be drawn from a hat beginning at 1pm, with the drawing expected to last approximately two hours.  For those who are unable to attend in person on April 24th, Race-Dezert.com will be setting up a live internet feed from MasterCraft Safety’s Santee headquarters.
